What's The Big Deal About 4th Grade?
Fourth grade is an exciting time for students as they grow into their roles as the "Big Kids" at school. In third grade, many students began to identify their learning behaviors and to label themselves. Students may have begun to refer to themselves as 'smart', 'good reader', 'bad at math', 'bored with social studies', 'loner', 'popular', etc. In fourth grade, students continue to label themselves and develop their identity around the labels they have already created for themselves. During this year we want to encourage students to think positively about themselves and help support them as they grow. What Can you Expect From 4th Grade? At this stage in their learning, students will be reading across the curriculum in all subjects and will be expected to have a deep understanding of what they read. In math, students will be adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing large whole numbers. They will also be working with converting measurements, decimals and fractions. Students tend to have more homework, book reports and research projects. This is a great time for children to become more responsible and take greater ownership of their learning.
